Resource Management - Sustainable Dubuque

Resource Management

Sustainable Dubuque is a community that values the benefits of reducing, reusing and recycling resources.

 I want to ...

Know when my garbage gets picked up, and what I can set out.
The City of Dubuque's curbside program was implemented in 1991. The City's subsequent "Pay As You Throw" program immediately reduced landfilling by 30% and increased recycling by 40%.  Click here to find out everything you need to know about curbside garbage, recycling, yard waste, and food scrap collection.

Learn where to recycle or to dispose of materials safely.
The Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency (DMASWA) serves the Dubuque County area collects large items, electronics, hazardous materials, and many other materials.  Their Recycle and Reuse Guide provides information on where you can dispose of many common items.

Earth911 is a national website that also provides information about where you can dispose of a variety of materials.

Learn about Recycling and "Zero Waste" at festival and events.
The goal of Zero Waste is to create a closed loop where products are made to be reused, repaired and recycled. It is a practice that minimizes and ultimately eliminates waste.  The DMASWA, City of Dubuque, and others are available to help you hold a Low or Zero Waste event.
